*Leviticus 18:22: “‘Do not have sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman; that is detestable.
*Leviticus 20:13: “‘If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.
*1 Timothy 1:9-11: We also know that the law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, 10 for the sexually immoral, for those practicing homosexuality, for slave traders and liars and perjurers—and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine 11 that conforms to the gospel concerning the glory of the blessed God, which he entrusted to me.
*Romans 1:26-2:1: Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. 27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.
28 Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done. 29 They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; 31 they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy. 32 Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.
Romans 2
God’s Righteous Judgment
1 You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge another, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things.*We have no right to judge for another's sin or homosexuality because we ourselves are sinful
*Homosexuality is sinful to Christians
1. There is a huge difference between same sex attraction and being a practising homosexual
*We tend to relate both as sin
2. Christians sometimes find themselves debating whether or not people are born homosexual or they become homosexual due to environmental factors
*We are born sinful
*So whether they are attracted to the same sex or later in life, we are all sinful at the end of the day
3. The sin of homosexuality does not prohibit people from coming to Jesus
*Sin is the reason that people come to Jesus
*The bible is clear that homosexuality is a sin but the topic is homosexual marriage
*What and how do we engage in homosexual marriage?
1. Christians should publicly fight against homosexual marriage
1st argument : God created marriage to be between a man and a woman
2nd argument: Marriage is about children
*Homosexuals can adopt
*Christians would say biblical part of family would be a father and a mother
*2 homosexuals cannot make babies but what about heterosexuals that cant make babies because of deficiency?
*Heterosexual deficiency is rare but homosexuals are certain they cannot have babies
*Don't want homosexual adoption to be common and normal
3rd argument: Aren't God's laws the best thing for society?
*Jeremiah 29:7: Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the LORD for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.”
*Why would we endorse something happening in society when God says otherwise?
*Christians should not publicly fight against homosexual marriage
*We are not expecting unbelievers to behave like believers
*That is not the gospel. Instead, we will be teaching them moralism
*1 Corinthians 5:12: What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside?
*The Gospel is not to change and come to God but come as you are
*Are we trying to legislate morality?
*Why don't we fight against gossip then?
*We do legislate for murder but what conviction should we choose to legislate?
*What does this do for the cause of the Gospel?
*1 Corinthians 15:3-4: For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance[a]: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures
*Fundamentalist : Gospel ---> Morality
*Angelicos : Morality ---> Gospel
*Christians could fight against homosexual marriage, but not on behalf of Christianity
#1 We do not speak on behalf of all Christians
#2 We do not want to be known as the group against
law- a picture of God's holiness
commands -get an understanding of our sinfulness
gospel - not about us but about Jesus' life, death and resurrection
- God's holiness in our sin
Two overriding principles
#1 Jesus never once compromise the definition of sin
Hence, we are never to compromise that homosexuality is sinful
*Matthew 15:1-9:
That Which Defiles
1 Then some Pharisees and teachers of the law came to Jesus from Jerusalem and asked, 2 “Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? They don’t wash their hands before they eat!” 3 Jesus replied, “And why do you break the command of God for the sake of your tradition? 4 For God said, ‘Honor your father and mother’[a] and ‘Anyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death.’[b] 5 But you say that if anyone declares that what might have been used to help their father or mother is ‘devoted to God,’ 6 they are not to ‘honor their father or mother’ with it. Thus you nullify the word of God for the sake of your tradition. 7 You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you:
8 “‘These people honor me with their lips,
but their hearts are far from me.
9 They worship me in vain;
their teachings are merely human rules.’
but their hearts are far from me.
9 They worship me in vain;
their teachings are merely human rules.’
