Debt Free

Effective Money Management

*I will give you everything
*God is asking to be willing to give up everything
*Luke 16:1-13: Jesus told his disciples: "There was a rich man whose manager was accused of wasting his possessions. So he called him in and asked him, 'What is this I hear about you? Give an account of your management, because you cannot be manager any longer."
"The manager said to himself, 'What shall I do now? My master is taking away my job. I'm not strong enough to dig, and I'm ashamed to beg--I know what I'll do so that, when I lose my job here, people will welcome me into their houses.'
"So he called in each one of his master's debtors. He asked the first, 'How much do you owe my master?'
" ' Eight hundred gallons of olive oil, he replied.
"The manager told him, 'Take your bill, sit down quickly, and make it four hundred.'
"Then he asked the second, 'And how much do you owe?'
" 'A thousand bushels of wheat, ' he replied.
"He told him, 'Take your bill and make it eight hundred.'
"The master commended the dishonest manager because he had acted shrewdly. For the people of this world are more shrewd in dealing with their own kinds than are the people of the light. I tell you, use worldly wealth to gain friends for yourselves, so that when it is gone, you will be welcomed into eternal dwellings.
"Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much. So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches? And if you have not been trustworthy with someone else's property, who will give you property of your own?
"No servant can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money."

*Jesus said more about money than heaven
*He wish the people will leverage the earthly things for the kingdom of heaven
*You will not been faithful in heavenly riches if you are not faithful in handling worldly riches
*If you are sacrificing marriage for other stuff, who are you serving? God or Money?
*We fall to our culture and trend that we are influenced of
*Continue to surrender to God then he will handle your finances because he wants to be in your life
*You are a money manager and God has entrusted what is his to us
*We are not bringing money to heaven

Becoming Great Money Managers
1. Track your spending
*Figures don't lie
*You will escape the anxiety

2. Get a financial strategy
*100% money is to be use for the purpose of God
*Examine what would Jesus hope and do
*Figure out what you would want to do in life- plan it out

3. Setup direct debit/ automatic transfers
*Committed to give 10% of income each month
*Why?
*not because were more generous or spiritual but automatic transfer
*Take control of our giving
*Lets be a community which God has taken charge for us to do
*If we could get hold of this, our lives and the community's lives will be transfored
*We have clothes, food, water, but after that, what would we do to our money?
*We are looking for opportunities to do what God wants us to do.

Deviously deprived 2nd version

This is a modified version of the last sermon i wrote as i went for two services but had similar message.

18/7/2010
Hope Brisbane afternoon service

2 Timothy 3:6-9: They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over weak-willed women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires, always learning but never able to acknowledge the truth. Just as James and Jambres opposed Moses, so also these men oppose the truth- men of depraved minds, who, as far as the faith is concerned, are rejected. But they will not get very far because, as in the case of those men, their folly will be clear to everyone.

*God has sent us into this world though we are not of the world to influence the world
*Whatever the world is facing, the church is not immune in it.
*Not to say that we are an exclusive church, wearing a halo and talking in Hebrew
*Not to say were affected but we will follow the trend
*Thats why we need to be careful
*Deviously depraved
-beware of the corruption (v6-8)= morally bad or evil (depraved in dictionary)

Romans 1:28-31: Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed, and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless.

1. *Crucial to choose our friends wisely
*Peer influence grows as we grow mature
*Beware of those with corrupted intentions (v6)
*Don't be friends with those who will disobey God's laws
*Message version: These are the kind of people who smooth talk themselves into the homes of unstable and needy women and take advantage of them
Genesis 3:1-3: Now the sepent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, "Did God really say, 'You must not eat from any tree in the garden'?"

The woman said to the serpent, "We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, but God did say, 'You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.'"

-Its the same when Satan lured Eve
*We have the choice to say no
1. Laid doubts
2. Encourage thoughts that its fine to disobey God

2. Be alert of the imposters (v7-8)
*God is a God of Truth and Satan is the Father of Lies

*Isaiah 45:19: I have not spoken in secret, from somewhere in a land of darkness; I have not said to Jacod's descendants, 'Seek me in vain.' I, the Lord, speak the truth; I declare what is right.

*John 8:44: You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

*Counterfeit truth is a compromise to the biblical truth
-they look real but their not the real deal

*Matthew 7:15: "Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.

*Jude 4:1: After this I looked, and there before me was a door standing open in heaven. And the voice I had first heard speaking to me like a trumpet said, "Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this."

* We will analyse and think through before we say it is the word of God
*The existence of counterfeits does not signify the absence of truth
*eg: It doesn't mean people may create false bibles but it doesn't mean the bible is not true

*Exodus 7:10-8:18: So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and did just as the Lord commanded. Aaron threw his staff down in front of Pharaoh and his officials, and it became a snake. Pharaoh then summoned wise men and sorcerers, and the Egyptian magicians also did the same things by their secret arts. Each one threw down his staff and it became a snake. But Aaron's staff swallowed up their staffs. Yet Pharaoh's heart became hard and he would not listen to them, just as the Lord had said.

Then the Lord said to Moses, "Pharaoh's heart is unyielding; he refuses to let the people go. Go to Pharoah in the morning as he goes out to the water. Wait on the bank of the Nile to meet him, and take in your hand the staff that was changed into a snake. Then say to him, 'The Lord, the God of Hebrews, has sent me to say to you: Let my people go, so that they may worship me in the desert. But until now you have not listened. This is what the Lord says: By this you will know that I am the Lord: With the staff that is in my hand I will strike the water of the Nile, and it will be changed into blood. The fish in the Nile will die, and the river will stink; the Egyptians will not be able to drink its water.'"

The Lord said to Moses, "Tell Aaron, 'Take your staff and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt- over the streams and canals, over the ponds and all the reservoirs' and they will turn to blood. Blood will be everywhere in Egypt, even in the wooden buckets and stone jars...

*Whatever Moses did, the magicians followed but God is a God of truth
*How do we know which is the difference whether its a counterfeit or not, we need to know the truth
*We know the imposters when we have seen and experience the truth!

*Matthew 4:1-10 when Devil tested Jesus

*Seek to read the Bible and grow- not to be spoon fed

3. Be sure (v9)
*So you think we can outsmart and get away from God?
*But what God i really doing is demonstrating grace

2 Peter 3:9: The Lord is not slow in eping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

*You can't outsmart God because after all, He gave us us our brains
*God's victory is revealed through us
*When we live in God's truth, we will live out His victorious life for us!
*It may be hard and challenging to obey God

*Romans 8:37: No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
(We are more than conquerors)

*1 Corinthians 15:57-58: But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

-God's will can be residing through us
*We can still shine!
*We are his testimony for others
*God's victory is administered through us
*The more people repent the Truth, the more lies can be exposed.

*Luke 5:32: I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

**Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path**

Deviously depraved

Hope Brisbane Youth Service!

*God is more interested in changing our heart and lives
*The Bible is relevant for us today
*The message is about hope and what he wants to do in our lives

*Romans 1:28-31: Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done.

*Not only by the grace of God but truth
*The truth that were living will change your life
*We are different people today by the grace of God
*We face temptation that pulls us away
*God has something with us as well

*2 Timothy 3:6-9: They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over weak-willed women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires, always learning but never able to acknowledge the truth. Just as James and Jambres opposed Moses, so also these men oppose the truth- men of depraved minds, who, as far as the faith is concerned, are rejected. But they will not get very far because, as in the case of those men, their folly will be clear to everyone.

*There are two things we need to avoid =
1. Have a depraved minds = morally corupt
2. Have a countefeit faith= false belief

*If you face the truth, you can be a changed person
*Change can begin, when you're honest with yourself
*The word of God is like a mirror (or the most accurate)- you see a lot of flaws when we look at the mirror
*We would continue to watch our hearts if we constantly listen to his word
*God brings light to see in a different area
*The thing that will take us somewhere is to COMPROMISE
*So compromise to MORALITY
*Compromise to BIBLICAL TRUTH

*Exodus 7:10-12: So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and did just as the Lord commanded.

*If our times, there might be Christians but not really Christians
COMPROMISE
- to settle for second best
- to lower sides of God's will
- to go against Godly convictions and biblical truth
*He will say something in your heart if you read the Bible frequently
*The challenge of the church is to discern what is God's best for us
*Really seek God for his will
*If you are sincere, he will lead you for his very best
*Another fact that would lead us to compromise is fear
*When you face that fear, got to bring to God to overcome it

*Genesis 3:1-4: Now the sepent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made.
"You will not surely die," the serpent said to the woman.

*The Devil will come in grey and blurry image instead of black and white

*Matthew 7:15: "Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.

*Matthew 4- Jesus fasted, its not easy

*Nothing wrong with turning stone into bread but we should not gratify our flesh but worshiping God
*Mistrust if Jesus disobeyed God
*God will not give us things too hard to bear
*We have to go through the hard times to be stronger
*Just hold on with the truth
*Avoiding compromise
1. Continue to give first priority to maturing in relationship with God
2. Keep the big picture in mind
-take a few steps back
-who and what would you become
3. Seek advice from trustworthy and Godly counsels

*Proverbs 15:22: Plans fall for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they suceed.

*Proverbs 11:14: For lack of guidance nation falls, but many advisers make victory sure. (The message)

4. Guard our hearts, keep the right conscience and obey the voice of the Holy Spirit
*The one who lives in me is better than my problems

*Jeremiah 17:9: The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?

*Proverbs 11:23: The desire of the righteous ends only in good, but the hope of the wicked only in wrath.

5. Choose to surrender and trust God for his will and wisdom for our lives

*Isaiah 55:8-9: "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declares the Lord. "As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.

*Proverbs 3:5-6: Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; and in your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.
*If your having any compromised problems

Sheep or Goats

Pastor Raymond Lee

Matthew 25: 31-46: When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.
"Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'
"Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord. when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?'
"Then he will say to those on his left, ' Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.'
"They also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?'
"He will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.'
"Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life."

*Your good works in life does not save you
*We are saved by grace through faith
*Graceful actions-charitable
*Gifts, money should be use to reflect God's glory
*He love, so he gave
*To help the poor, needy is a distinct act
*It is a simple act of kindness, everyone can participate
* All these is important to Jesus
*Whatever you did for the least, you did it for me
*The needy needs someone to love them, to bring them in
*The rich has lost sight of the poor
*If you ignore, the poor, you are ignoring Jesus
*They are sick, dirty, poor but do you see Jesus in them?
*You'll never believe how God answered our prayers
*How much you have gave but how much you have left behind
*Church are like fertilizers- put them together and they will be stinky, but spread it out and it will nourish the ground
*Each was accorded what was due to them
*When we are blessed, we must be a blessing to others
*We live on gifts, not time
*Determine what side you will be, sheep or goats.

"Living in the Security The Father's Love"

Mark 1:9-11: Not long afterwards Jesus came from Nazareth in the province of Galiee, and was baptized by John in the Jordan. As soon as Jesus came up out of the water, he saw heaven opening and the Spirit coming down on him like a dove. And a voice came from heaven, "You are my own dear Son. I am pleased with you."

John 13:1-5: It was now the day before the Passover Festival. Jesus knew that the hour had come for him to leave this world and go to the Father. He had always loved those in the world who were his own, and he loved them to the very end.

Jesus and his disciples were at supper. The Devil had already put into th heart of Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, the thought of betraying Jesus. Jesus knew that the Father had given him complete power; he knew that he had come from God and was going to God. So he rose from the table, took off his outer garment, and tied a towel round his waist. Then he poured some water into a basin and began to wash the disciples' feet and dry them with the towel round his waist.

Bishop Dr. Hwa Yung

Colosians 3:21: Parents, do not irritate your children, or they will become discouraged.

*He can send his own children to death if he wants to
*It is a terrible word
*Paul reminded the fathers that it is very different from father's who obey the law
*True fatherhood begins with proper understanding of what true manhood is
*lack of understand how culture and family works
*Most cultures are man dominated
*Fathers can be known as a Rambo or a whimp
Rambo= symbol for great authocratice powerful man
-no housework, cannot serve, accept to be served, don't care about children's needs
*It is not uncommon
*Whimp- gentle, caring, worse if there is a dominating wife
*dysfunctional homes -> dysfunctional parents -> dysfunctional children and the cycle goes on
*We're always hungry for inner security in our lives
*As christians, we are meant to break the vicious cycle
1. Man or women are meant to make our home but don't wait till tomorrow
2. We need to remind our parents to reassure our kids
*When we fail to affirm or lack proper bond, it is at the root for gender confusion
*Girls need their mothers and vice versa to be role models
*without role models, children will be confused
*the main root most of the time is improper bonding between children and parent

*Proverbs 31:
Advice to a King
These are the solemn words which King Lemuel's mother said to him: "You are my own dear son, the answer to my prayers. What shall I tell you? Don't spend all your energy on sex and all your money on women; they have destroyed kings. Listen, Lemuel. Kings should not drink wine or have a craving for alcohol. When they drink, they forget the laws and ignore the rights of people in need. Alcohol is for people who are dying, for those who are in misery. Let them drink and forget their poverty and unhappiness.

"Speak up for people who cannot speak for themselves. Protect the rights of all who are helpless. Speak for them and be a righteous judge. Protect the rights of the poor and needy."

*Story of truth
*These are dominant women
*Who is the model of all manhood?
*John 13: Jesus the teacher, the great miracle worker, the healer
-Jesus washes His disciples feet
*usually a servant would wash their feet but there was no servant
*Jesus sees the sorrow of Lazarus' sisters
*John 11:35: Jesus wept.

*He allowed sinful women to touch him
*Jesus shows us what a man should be. It is different from the typical man
*Look at the image of manhood that God exemplifies
*The world talks about the leadership
*Leader is a boss that pushes around
*Don't be so caught up
See the lifes of Jesus and servanthood
*moral and spiritual quality
*How to learn to practise real manhood
*1. Jesus exemplify manhood becuase he knew his identity, his destiny, he was secured
*Luke 3:22: and the Holy Spirit came down upon him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven, "You are my own dear Son. I am pleased with you."

-You are my son, I love you, I'm proud of you
*He knew His father gave him all things
*We chase the things that give us superficial security
*This is the tragedy of the world today
*Have a deep relationship with our father and pray to our Father
1. Learn frm Jesus
2. Ask God to help you grow
*Ask God to give you grace and cover you with the best armour.

**Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path**
